All my pupils will benefit from my enthusiastic and lively lessons, where the emphasis on learning is fun. If you have a younger child, I have many reward systems in place, such as stickers, charts and report cards to take home.
One-to-one lessons are advised as each child has different learning abilities and for example, one sibling may have a passion for Mozart, and the other might be a future Jools Holland! This also alleviates sibling competitiveness.
I will assess each child on an individual basis to ensure their progress is good, and that they enjoy practicing and playing the piano.
I use a wide variety of books, including jazz for beginners, books with colouring to do, theory books, and traditional books thus ensuring your child's lessons are never dull!
If your child has special needs and would like to play the piano, then please call me as I tailor make my teaching to match my pupils, not the other way around.
Please note that I have an enhanced DBS which enables me to work with young people in a trusting and professional environment. I always ask parents/guardians to stay with their young child during their lesson, which ensures the child has someone to help them practice at home.
Regarding exams, although I recommend them as a way of monitoring progress, they are not obligatory and I will never force anyone into taking an exam. However they are a superb way to build self-esteem and it’s a fantastic personal achievement for any child to show off their talents. Exams start at a very early stage. The earliest one has tunes such as baa baa black sheep and mary had a little lamb, these are great fun, and a parent/guardian can sit with their child during the exam. They will also get a fabulous certificate to show off their hard work.
